Great Question

Research platform for interviews, surveys, and unmoderated tests on Figma prototypes or live apps, with a list of your participants, a pay-as-you-go panel, and a connection for coding assistants (MCP). You can buy a seat without a sales call, at $129 a month, and there is no free plan.

Yes, with caveats

Great Question

1. Overview

Great Question (greatquestion.co) pitches itself as a way to “talk to your customers this week”: find people in your CRM or its panel, run interviews, surveys and prototype tests, and share findings that cite every session (Homepage). It bundles three things other tools in this section sell separately: a participant CRM, research methods, and an AI repository (Pricing).

The question for this section is whether one builder can check a problem and their success criteria with real users, and no research team. The answer is yes, with caveats. It covers the whole loop on a self-serve plan: recruit, schedule, interview or test, pay incentives, and synthesise. The caveats are price, and that several of the most AI-native parts sit on Enterprise.

MCP serverHosted server letting Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and others read and write studies, candidates, scheduling and the repositorySee caveat belowMCP Help, GitHub

MCP plan caveat: the official GitHub repository says the MCP works on “any plan”, but the pricing FAQ lists “the Great Question MCP” as a reason to need Enterprise (GitHub, Pricing). The help centre calls MCP access “plan-gated” (AI settings). Treat it as Enterprise until Great Question confirms otherwise.

Naming overlaps: the company uses both greatquestion.co (app, pricing, help) and greatquestion.com (marketing and blog). This page covers that company only.

Pricing (re-check live): Self-serve is $129 per seat a month, or $1,290 per seat a year, up to five seats, with unlimited free observers. There is no free plan; the 14-day trial needs no card. Enterprise is custom, annual only, five seats minimum (Pricing). External recruitment is charged per successfully recruited participant at what the company calls “near-cost pricing”, with incentives on top; per-participant prices are not stated publicly (Pricing).

2. How it scores on the rubric

CriterionAssessmentEvidence
Time-to-usefulFast. Trial with no card, paste a live URL or Figma link, add a task, recruit. The company’s own Lovable guide frames it as five users, one task, one afternoon of review. Incentives and external recruitment only start once you payPricing, Lovable guide
Fidelity (of evidence)Strong and mixed-method: moderated interviews for the why, Figma tests with success rate and time-on-task for the what, recordings with transcripts for live apps. Card sorting and tree testing are EnterprisePrototype Testing, Pricing
Non-engineer usabilityHigh. Guided workflows and templates aimed at PMs, designers and marketers; no SDK to installHomepage
Design-system / prototype fidelityGood. Figma prototypes (Figma Make included) get quantitative metrics; AI-built apps run as live sites with recordings. Only Figma is supported in the Prototype Test block itselfPrototype Testing, Features
Human gatesGood governance: eligibility rules, contact limits and PII by role; AI switched on account-wide by admins; MCP respects workspace roles and can redact PII. Note the MCP can launch studies and send invites, so keep a human in that loopHomepage, AI settings, GitHub
HandoffFindings cite sessions and quotes; highlight reels; Slack, Figma and 20+ integrations; MCP into Claude, Cursor and ChatGPT where your plan allowsHomepage, Pricing, MCP Help

Fit for this section (verdict: yes-with-caveats). If you have even a small customer list, Great Question is the most complete answer in this section: recruit your own users at no per-head cost, interview them, test the live AI-built app, and keep the evidence in one cited repository. It earns the caveat on cost and gating. One seat is $129 a month with no free plan, strangers cost extra at unpublished rates, and the parts that make it feel agentic (AI moderation, and probably the MCP) need Enterprise. A solo builder testing a single flow with strangers will get there cheaper with Lyssna or Maze.

4. FAQ

Can a solo builder validate a problem with Great Question and no research team?

Yes, if the budget stretches to one seat. Self-serve covers interviews, surveys, unmoderated prototype and website tests, your participant panel and AI analysis for $129 a month (Pricing).

Is there a free plan?

No. There is a 14-day trial with no card, and observers are free on paid plans (Pricing).

Can Great Question test a Lovable or v0 app?

Yes, as a live URL through a Website Test, with screen and audio recording and a transcript. The Prototype Test block with click metrics supports Figma links only (Lovable guide, Prototype Testing).

Where do participants come from?

Your own customers, imported by CSV or API, at no per-participant fee; Respondent on any paid plan; and User Interviews on Enterprise. External recruits are charged per participant, with incentives paid through Tremendous on top (Pricing, Integrations).

Does it do AI-moderated interviews?

Yes, and the company says they are live, but they are an Enterprise add-on (Pricing).

Can an AI agent run research in Great Question?

Through its MCP server, connected assistants can create studies, search candidates, schedule, invite and query the repository, with your workspace permissions applied (GitHub, MCP Help). Sources disagree on whether this needs Enterprise, so check before you buy (Pricing).

Is there an affiliate programme?

No public affiliate programme was found. Its named partnerships with Respondent and User Interviews are recruitment integrations, and a third-party listing says there is no current programme (Respondent, User Interviews, Affiliate Waitlist).
